On Saturday 23rd March Keswick ladies 1s played their last away game of the season away at Wigton, against their second team.
With the development game being cancelled last minute we gained some young players to allow us to have a sub for the day! The match started off strong with some great defence work from Kate and Izzy at the back as they marked Wigton’s forwards out the game and gained multiple intercepts. Rachel and Rosie worked hard across the middle covering off Wigton’s key players whilst sending some cracking balls down the middle to Neve waiting in the D. With Keswick playing with only two forwards instead of our usual three, playing a 4-4-2 formation, we struggled to get into our groove until Rosie sent the ball into Emily W who slipped it past the keeper in the 20th minute. Keswick continued to press Wigton with Jessie working the ball up the left wing and Pippa making multiple intercepts to turn over the ball. Keswick’s second goal came from a short corner as Rachel injected the ball to Neve who struck it from the top of the D and found the back of the net. The score at half time was 2-0 to Keswick.
After a few positional changes Keswick came back fighting as Heather kept out multiple chances from Wigton’s short corners. Phoebe played an excellent game giving Wigton something to worry about with her J runs into the D on the right wing. Honey worked well at left back, feeding the ball up the wing and tracking back when Wigton pressed high. Unfortunately after some strong passing from Wigton they came from behind to score a goal. This didn’t deter Keswick however after many more chances at goal that they just couldn’t concede, the game finished at 2-1 to Keswick.
Phoebe was voted as player of the match.
