Keswick ladies first travelled to Austin Friars School in Carlisle to play their ladies third team on Saturday 9th March at 11am. Keswick travelled with 11 players and with our keeper Heather away, Kate stepped into her very big shoes. Keswick started off strong with some great drives down the wing by Phoebe and some excellent J runs into the D. Keswick were awarded a short corner early on in the game and after Gayle injected the ball to Neve at the top D, Neve took a strike and found Gayle’s stick in front of the keeper and a goal was scored. Keswick kept the pace up and shortly after Kat scored from a great ball fed in by Rosie after she ran the length of the pitch. Izzy made some excellent tackles at the back meaning Keswick regained possession. The ball was fed up the pitch by Rachel who passed it to Neve who scored another goal. Keswick’s final goal of the first half came from Emily W as she was passed a brilliant ball from Phoebe J running into the D and she scored from the left post. The first half finished at 4-0 to Keswick.
The second half started strong for Keswick as Emily scored two goals in quick succession. After a fumble of a pass from Carlisle across the D, Kat intercepted the ball and made it 7-0. Carlisle didn’t give up and they gained a couple of short corner chances however they couldn’t score from them. Gayle and Cara worked together well marking the incoming attackers as they sped down the right wing. Kate made some excellent saves however after a rebound met a Carlisle players stick, they managed to chip the ball into the top corner, earning themselves a goal. Keswick kept up the pressure on Carlisle after this and Rachel intercepted a ball in their half, she drove down the pitch and fired it into Neve who was awaiting in the D and slipped it right past their keeper. Keswick’s final goal came from Rosie as she worked tirelessly bringing the ball up the pitch. She reached the top of the D and fired the ball right across to the bottom left corner. This resulted in the game ending at 9-1 to Keswick.
Phoebe was awarded player of the match.
