KHC Walking Hockey meets Lamplugh WI.

We were asked by Gail, from the WH group if we could give a talk at her WI meeting about "Walking Hockey" & so a couple of weeks ago Steve, Nick & myself duly attended.

After a very warm & friendly greeting from the WI president, Brenda, we looked around the room to see 43 ladies all eagerly waiting for our presentation, with their chairs set out in a semi-circle leaving an open space so they could have a go.

I then talked about the origins of hockey, how the game was established in the UK and then worldwide and also about the involvement of women in hockey in the modern era.

Followed by some information about "Walking Hockey", why and how it came about and its place in the current number of different sports that have adopted the "walking" initiative, all with the aim of enabling people to continue play or re engage again in a variety of sports at a time, perhaps, when they have been less able to play or take part in a mainstream sport they have previously enjoyed.

This can be best summarised as follows,
“The walking sports community offers you the opportunity to meet new, like-minded people in a friendly and inclusive setting."

This I also aligned to the principles of the WI and many other groups that meet across the country with the aim of allowing people to socialise & meet up for exercise or just a chat.
Following our presentation we gave the ladies the opportunity to have ago as we had taken sticks & balls along and as you will see in the following videos & pictures many had a go, some very enthusiastically!

Overall a very enjoyable evening & after being thanked we retired for a well earned shandy.

As a footnote a group of ladies are keen to come along in September to have a go, so watch this space for when we resume the KHC Walking Hockey evenings again in September.
