West Derby 2s vs Keswick 2s

Keswick Hockey Club’s Men’s 2s travelled away to West Derby for their second league game of the season last Saturday, welcoming back Rob Morris and Ewan Maddrell into the team.
Keswick once again started positively early on but were unable to make the most of their chances, with both Morris and Ben Harrison going close to finding the back of the net.
Unfortunately Keswick found themselves 2 goals down at half time despite having the better of the first half.
Eager to push on and get a couple of goals Keswick looked good on the attack, winning several short corners, but were being unable to make them count.
West Derby then grabbed a dubious third goal when their attacking player appeared to kick the ball before scoring, which unfortunately for Keswick the umpire failed to see.
Keswick did however manage to pull a goal back when a penalty flick was awarded after the West Derby goalkeeper collided with Morris. Ben Harrison stepped up to take the penalty and found the top right hand corner of the net, giving Keswick a lifeline.
Chris Bicknell gave another strong performance at right-back, and was at hand to cut out several West Derby attacks.
Jack Law worked tirelessly upfront all afternoon, playing some excellent hockey and linking the team well, resulting in a man of the match performance.
Pushing to get something out of the game Keswick conceded a fourth goal.
Despite the loss Keswick can take a lot of positives out of the game, and perhaps on another day have come away with all 3 points.
Keswick Men’s 2s are hoping to get their first points of the season on the board this Saturday 3rd October when they welcome Lancaster and Morecambe 2s to Cockermouth School, with a start time of 12:45pm.
