Keswick Unlucky In First Game Of The Season

Keswick Hockey Club’s Men’s 2s started off their first league game of the 2015/2016 season away to Kendal.
The team handed debuts to goalkeeper Gary Tupper and midfielder Steve Salvesen.
Keswick displayed a good attacking performance in the first 15 minutes, narrowly missing out on finding the back of the net several times.
Regrettably Keswick found themselves two goals down at half time, despite Tupper’s excellent performance in goal, as well as Salvesen and Dan Pyke working hard in the middle of midfield.
Regrouping during half time Keswick proved that they were a forced to be reckoned with by changing formation, and by moving Ben Harrison into centre-midfield they managed to find their normal passing game, which resulted in Harrison putting in a man of the match performance.
Unfortunately Kendal, who were relegated form the league above last season, managed to grab 2 goals early in the second half, giving them a 4-0 lead.
Despite being 4 goals down, Keswick fought hard.
They managed to grab a goal from a short corner, when Pyke slipped the ball left to Harrison who squared it for Jack Law to find the back of the opposition net, giving Keswick a lifeline with 15 minutes to go.
The goal of the game then came when Keswick claimed their second goal. James Fennel won the ball in defence and offloaded it to Paul Sloan who carried the ball forward, finding Pyke on the left hand side who ran down the wing to the by-line, dinked it over two players’ sticks and found the bottom corner of the net.
Matty Burridge almost scored Keswick a third goal late on, but the Kendal keeper managed to get a glove to the ball and save the shot.
Unfortunately time was not on Keswick’s side and they were unable to take any points away with them, despite an excellent second half performance.
Final score: Kendal 4 vs Keswick 2.
Keswick Men’s 2s next league game is on Saturday 26th September, away to West Derby 2s.
