Keswick Still 2 Points Clear After 5-1 Win

On Saturday Keswick Hockey Club’s men’s 1st team were on the road again for the second consecutive week, as they made the journey south to play Crewe Vagrants.
Due to a couple of absentees Keswick were forced to reshuffle, with skipper Shaun Wilson sitting in at centre-back for the unavailable Jamie O’Shea.
Eager to continue their good run of form Keswick were quick out of the blocks and were very much the dominant team from the first whistle.
Their first goal came from left-back Robert Owen. From a misplayed Keswick short corner Owen found himself inside the 6 yard area who calmly lifted the ball over the Crewe keeper and into the back of the net.
Owen then very nearly scored his second goal of the game from another short corner, but was unable to convert when his powerful strike form the top of the area rebounded off the inside of the post.
Keswick’s second goal of the game came just before half time. Winger Clive Swanston intercepted a misplaced pass and hit a great pass Luke Heap, who with a deft touch found the top corner of the net to give Keswick a 2-0 lead at half time.

In the second half Crewe started strongly, and scored a goal though a great strike just minutes into the second half.
Raring to push ahead Keswick scored their third goal yet again through current top goal scorer Heap, who finished after some good work from attacking midfield Mark Proctor.
Keswick kept good possession of the ball as the game pressed on, and Crewe rarely gave goalkeeper Gary Tupper anything to worry about.
Swanston had a brilliant goal ruled out by the umpire, as there was judged to have been a foul in the build up.
Keswick did not let this effect them as they soon got a fourth goal through striker Jack Chippendale when he converted with a great touch after another assist from Proctor, who played a good ball in from the right side of the pitch.
The final goal of the game was scored by Swanston, who finished neatly from inside the 6 yard area to give Keswick a 5-1 which still see them 2 points clear at the top of North West Division 2.

Keswick 1st Team have a tough schedule next weekend as they play two games.
