Keswick Mens 1s welcomed Neston South Wirral Mens 2s to Cockermouth School in a top of the table clash just 4 weeks into this season's campaign.

Hopes were high for the Cumbrians who have won their first 3 games comfortably with 21 goals scored and only 1 goal conceded. However, Neston held similar stats going into the fixture with 3 wins and only a poorer goal difference keeping them off the top spot.

Neston proved themselves to be a formidable force with several substitutes ensuring their attack remained fresh throughout the game. Keswick initially struggled to adapt to the higher standard of opposition, but they held their ground and kept the game level at 0 - 0 at half time.

Keswick had a scare early on into the 2nd half when a wayward pass almost led to a goal for Neston, but Keswick’s back 4 of Randell, Mattear, Owen and O’Shea responded well and remained solid throughout the game.

As the game drew near the final whistle, both teams upped the intensity with tougher challenges from Swanston and Proctor giving the umpire plenty to consider. Neston secured a couple of Penalty Corners as a result which tested goalkeeper Tupper’s reactions; he responded well by booting the ball down the right wing setting up an attack. Within seconds Keswick were in Neston’s D with Heap providing Proctor with a goal which proved to be the difference between the two teams at the final whistle.

Keswick remain top of the league with 4 wins from 4, and are 2 points clear of Blackburn Northern 1s who they face next weekend.

Jamie O’Shea was awarded Man of the Match.
