Keswick do it the hard way scoring all 5 goals in the tie

Keswick were looking to continue their winning run in the league against a Preston side that they have had some good results against in previous seasons. Keswick started the brighter side and pressed Preston back; this pressure allowed Proctor to take advantage of Preston’s bad touch and crash the ball into Barnes at back post who made no mistake in making it 1-0 - a dream start for KWC.
Keswick continued to play some nice hockey with slick moves down both flanks but the final touch wasn’t quite there. The second goal came shortly after from some slick one touch hockey between Swanston and Proctor in midfield - Proctor then played the ball to Barnes at top ‘D’ who returned the ball to Proctor allowing him to slot it past the keeper to make it 2-0.
Keswick should have been out of sight by half time after missing a flurry of chances that on another day they would have buried. Barnes created a great chance when he intercepted a bad pass from Preston’s back line and beat the remaining defender and goal keeper - only for his effort to be plucked out of the top corner by Preston’s last defender.
After half time Keswick dropped the intensity in their play, when they should have gone for the jugular and killed off the game. KWC let Preston back into the game when Preston’s strike was deflected off a KWC defender and into their goal making it 2-1.
KWC hit back almost straight away after the restart when Sloan found Proctor from the left flank who drove into the Preston ‘D’ then slipped it back post for Barnes to make it 3-1
Keswick continued to have a lot of attacking play in the Preston half with Barnes, Shaw and Wilson all having fine attempts saved. Naive play in the KWC midfield gave Preston the opportunity to drive at Keswick’s back line. The Preston winger did well to beat the onrushing Harris from the Keswick goal and his shot-come-cross was deflected into an open goal by Mattear as he tried to get back and clear his lines. 3-2.
The remainder of the game was played out in the Preston half with Keswick looking dangerous on the break using pace down the flanks. The final whistle blew and KWC earned the 3 points but had done so in the hard way scoring all 5 goals in the tie.
